Erasmus+ Mobility Report – Barcelona

Erasmus+ Mobility Report – Barcelona

Zétény Máté Veszely

This summer, our group of 12 students had the opportunity to travel to Barcelona as part of the Erasmus+ mobility programme. For all of us, it was our first time living and working abroad for an extended period. The goal of the trip was to gain practical work experience in commerce and logistics, improve our language and soft skills, and get to know the daily life and culture of Spain.

During our stay, we did our internship at various companies. I, for example, worked at TourMeOut, a company that handles city tours, hostel activities, and local events. Work over there felt very different from what we were used to at home. The local staff and my supervisors were extremely welcoming, friendly, and easy to talk to right from day one.

My main tasks involved helping with event preparation, keeping track of promotional gear and materials, and delivering supplies to various hostels and event spots across the city. Moving around Barcelona meant using the metro and walking through the historic streets every day. Working in a Spanish environment taught me how to stay calm, communicate clearly in English and basic Spanish, and work together to solve problems when things got busy.

Besides work, our group spent a lot of time exploring the city together. Barcelona has a great atmosphere, especially during the summer. After our shifts, we usually walked through the Gothic Quarter, visited famous places like Montjuïc, and tried local food like tapas and tacos.

We were also lucky enough to be in the city during local street celebrations and the football world championship final. The energy in the streets was unbelievable, with thousands of people cheering and celebrating the Spanish team’s victory together. Joining in on those moments was definitely one of the highlights of the whole trip.

Looking back, this mobility gave us much more than just workplace practice. We learned how to be independent, manage our own schedules, handle our finances, and take care of everyday things as a group. Working in an international environment helped everyone build confidence in speaking foreign languages naturally.

We would like to thank the Erasmus+ program, our school, and our accompanying teachers for organizing this trip and supporting us throughout the experience.
